During her concert in Munich, Grammy winner Adele said she plans to take a long “break” after she wraps up her run in Las Vegas in November, according to video footage from the concert.
“Over the last seven years I’ve built a new life for myself and I want to live it,” Adele said, her voice shaking. “I want to live the new life I’ve been building.” She added that she might not go on stage again “for a very long time”, BGNES reported.
Adele has had an eventful few years personally and professionally.
In 2019, Adele and Simon Konecki, with whom she has one child, announced their separation. Since 2021, she has been in a relationship with sports agent Rich Paul, about whose status the singer has remained silent amid speculation that they are engaged.
In October, she will perform the remaining 10 shows of her Las Vegas residency Weekends with Adele, which begins in January 2022 and ends on November 23.
In Munich, Adele continued to thank “everyone who has ever come to one of my concerts” over the past three years, during which she performed songs from her latest studio album, 30.
“It’s been amazing, but I just need a break,” she said. CNN has reached out to the singer’s representatives for comment. In the past, Adele has withdrawn from public life for extended periods of time between releasing her studio albums.
Her last album was released in 2021, six years after the release of her hit album ’25’ in 2015. Her first and second albums were released in 2008 and 2011, respectively. Before that, she retired from performing in 2011 to undergo throat-related surgery. She also took a break after giving birth to her son in 2012.
In an interview with German TV channel ZDF in July, Adele hinted that she would soon retire from touring to “do other creative things, just for a little while.”
