The plans for a joint Belgian-Dutch football league are apparently more specific. According to local media, representatives of a total of eleven leading clubs from the two countries should meet in Eindhoven for talks on Friday.
According to the reports, the clubs meet “with a view to preparing a concrete proposal” that has real “sporting and economic potential”. Most recently, the clubs had already commissioned a feasibility study for a “BeNeliga”.
Interested clubs from the Netherlands include Ajax Amsterdam, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord Rotterdam, on the Belgian side RSC Anderlecht, Club Bruges, Standard Liège as well as KAA Gent and KRC Genk. Mind games about a common league, which is supposed to bring more competition and better marketing opportunities, have been around for several years.
