An insurance company refused to pay her up to $1 million in insurance
American actress Amber Heard is facing a new legal battle after her insurance company refused to pay her up to $1 million in insurance to cover the costs of the trial against her ex-husband, actor Johnny Depp, reported BGNES.

New York Marine and General Insurance Co. filed a lawsuit against the actress in federal court on Friday, saying she shouldn’t have to pay her back because her actions in her ex-husband’s lawsuit against her stemmed from her actions. Depp was awarded defamation damages last month.

In 2019, Depp sought $50 million in damages from his ex-wife over her 2018 Washington Post op-ed in which she claimed she was a victim of domestic violence. Although he did not name Depp in the text, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star argued in court that it was clear that he was the target of the comments.
Last month, Depp was awarded more than $10 million in defamation damages after a six-week trial.

The insurance company argued that it was only obligated to pay if the insured did not cause the damage himself, citing California law that the insurance company “is not liable for losses resulting from a knowing act of the insured.”
