New Lancia Delta it will be the next generation of the iconic model. The Delta is a mid-range car produced by the Italian car manufacturer Lancia in three series: the first from 1979 to 1993, the second from 1993 to 1999 and the third from 2008 to 2014. The Delta was one of the most popular and best-selling cars from the Lancia, thanks to its modern style, its advanced technology and its range of efficient engines. Delta also had a great racing career, winning six consecutive world rally titles between 1987 and 1992 with its versionsi Integrale e S4. The Delta was also the first and so far only Lancia car to be elected Car of the Year, in 1980.
New Lancia Delta: Germany, France or Italy, which Stellantis plant will host its production starting from 2028?
All this makes us understand why there is great expectation regarding the launch of the new Lancia Delta. Its debut is expected during 2028. The car will be electric only and will be born on the platform STLA Medium. Its length will therefore be around 4.4 m with a range that should reach around 700 km in the top-of-the-range version. About this car we know that it will have a design that will be made in the same style as the original version. There will therefore not be a revolution but a sort of evolution of the squared and muscular lines that distinguished the original.
One of the questions that many ask is what could be the home of the new Lancia Delta. The exact location of production of this car is currently unknown. However, the fact that we know that this model will be born on the STLA Medium platform narrows the field. This platform will only be used in some establishments of the Stellantis group: Melfi in Italy, Sochaux in France, Eisenhach in Germany. STLA Medium will also be adopted by other Stellantis factories around the world but given that the car will only be sold in Europe, we assume that one of these three factories will be the future home of the new Lancia Delta.
Obviously the hope is that it could be the Stellantis plant in Melfi where it should also be produced new Lancia Gamma, the future flagship of the brand which will arrive in 2026. At the moment the Delta is not among the five models announced by Stellantis for Melfi. The other 4 will be cars from foreign manufacturers. We talk in particular about the new Opel Manta, the new Jeep Compass and two cars from DS Automobiles. However, being a model expected from 2028 we cannot exclude that the production of Delta will be added at a later time. However, Germany and France remain hot tracks with the usual well-informed people who speak in particular of Eisenach. We’ll see what news will arrive in this regard from Lancia.
