The Corona crisis can also have positive effects – at least for the construction of the new wildlife park stadium: Because no spectators are currently allowed to enter the KSC stadium, the dismantling of the temporary south grandstand can begin faster than expected. What impact does this have on the overall schedule of the new stadium?
“Since no spectators can be expected in the game park stadium in the foreseeable future, the temporary and uncovered south grandstand will be dismantled from June 5,” announced the in-house operation of the football stadium in the game park (Eibs) in a press release.
The original schedule was to dismantle the south curve only after completion of the new east stand. According to the current status, this will probably not be completed until mid-September. The premature dismantling of the south grandstand is intended to ensure “an uninterrupted transition of the construction work from the east grandstand to the new south grandstand”.
Deadline for completion still unknown
But how is this time shift possible? The KSC and the Eibs previously applied to the German Football League (DFL) for an exceptional permit to fall below the minimum number of 15,000 spectator seats specified for second division stadiums over the entire first half of the next season – and thus to be able to convert grandstands faster . This approval was granted in mid-May.
However, according to Eibs, it has not yet been decided when the new KSC standing grandstand, which is to take the place of the south grandstand, can be completed. The cut-off date was originally set at the beginning of July 2021. At the latest, however, the KSC fans should move from the current temporary north stand to the newly constructed south stand. The subsequent dismantling and completion of the new north grandstand is currently scheduled for around the end of May 2022, according to the company’s own operations.
Nevertheless, the new stadium will not be finished earlier
Despite the updated schedule, the entire new stadium construction project is unlikely to be completed earlier. The reason: The dismantling and construction of the main grandstand, which is the last of the four grandstands, cannot be postponed.
The first work is scheduled to begin in September this year. “An earlier start of work in this area is not possible for various reasons,” continued the Eibs.
Bats and provisionals
A large part of the building, which houses the KSC office and the functional rooms, is still in operation. “Temporary provisions must be created here first.” The first rooms, such as the VIP areas, are currently being cleared.

The actual demolition work for the main grandstand should then begin in early December 2020. An earlier start is not possible here either: “Since bats nest in the building, the demolition work must not be brought forward.
A reduction in construction time is therefore not possible here, “it says in the report. Construction of the new main grandstand should begin at this point in March 2021 and be completed in the first half of 2022, as the last part of the construction work.
