New K-19 measures in Turkey

From September 6 in Turkey, all unvaccinated people will have to submit negative PCR test results before attending social events, including concerts, cinemas and theaters.

This requirement will also apply to passengers who plan to travel long distances by plane, bus, train or other type of public transport, reports Hürriyet Daily News, citing a circular from the Ministry of Interior.

The event organizers and staff will have to check the HES code of those present.

The latter is a tracking system existing in the country, which, among other things, allows you to find out if a person has received a negative result from a PCR test no later than the last 48 hours, the publication explains.

Earlier, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that PCR tests would become mandatory as part of the government’s efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Under these plans, unvaccinated teachers, students and university staff will also be required to conduct an analysis before resuming work on educational institutions on 6 September.

Despite the accelerated vaccination, the daily number of people infected with COVID-19 since July last year is over 20 thousand coronavirus therapy. The head of the Department of Infectious Diseases at Ankara University, Professor Ismail Balik, says the unvaccinated are currently the largest group among those treated in intensive care units for coronavirus.

“The second largest group were those who received only one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, followed by patients who received both doses but did not fully develop immunity. The fourth group are people who have been fully vaccinated, but more than three months have passed since the last vaccination, “he explained.

More than 88.6 million doses of the vaccine have been administered in Turkey since mid-January. About 46 million people received the first dose, and more than 35 million were fully vaccinated, notes Hürriyet Daily News.
