The Apple Wallets, Payments and Commerce (WPC) team is looking for an experienced business developer to lead an “alternative payment arrangements” department:

We are looking for a professional in global, alternative and new payment solutions. We need help to form a framework for partnerships and commercial models, define implementation paradigms, identify key players and manage relationships with strategic, alternative payment partners. The employee will be responsible for the design of the business, including screening partners, negotiations, closing of commercial agreements and launching new ones.

Apple

At least five years of experience from digital wallets

The role involves the development of new payment solutions that can include everything from the App Store, in-app purchases, retail purchases and Apple Pay’s collaboration with “alternative payment partners”. The job also includes working with senior partners within the company and providing guiding “insight into the industry and Apple’s market opportunities” and influencing “business strategy and product maps”.

One of the key qualifications is at least five years’ experience from “alternative payment providers such as digital wallets, BNPL, fast payment schemes, cryptocurrencies and so on”.

In position when needed

Experience with cryptocurrency is not required if the applicant has a background in alternative payment services such as “Buy now, pay later”. Apple’s interest in decentralized digital currencies indicates that the company sees potential opportunities in, or that they are trying to hire professionals with experience from emerging industries to be in position when needed.

Long-term potential

In 2019, Apple Pay’s Vice President Jennifer Bailey said that “cryptocurrency has an interesting long-term potential”.

Apple specifically protects the control over payments in the ‌App Store‌. It comes as no surprise that the company is exploring how new technology can secure the flow of money in the future.
