The new ISS module Naoeka, to which hangs a robot arm, which was largely developed in the Netherlands, has been experiencing delays since its launch on Wednesday afternoon due to technical problems. The module is in orbit under its own power to reach the space station, which flies much higher, at about 400 kilometers altitude.
To do that, the scientific module has its own propulsion system. There seem to be problems with that, independent observers report.
Aerospace journalist Anatoli Zak reported yesterday that Nauka’s main engines are not working properly. Another source talks about a malfunction in the fuel system.
The Russian space agency Roskosmos makes hardly any announcements about it. The organization announced yesterday that the ISS module Pirs, which has to make way for Nauka, will be dropped tomorrow. Earlier it was assumed today.
