The launch of the new iPhone 15 is fast approaching, Apple should present them at its traditional keynote, which is scheduled for September 12. As the launch of the new iPhones approaches, more and more information is emerging about the specifications of the new iPhones.
New iPhones 15 and USB-C Thunderbolt?
As you may have already noticed, Apple had to adopt a European regulation on the placement of USB-C ports for charging, which must be equipped with all phones sold in the European Union. There has been a lot of speculation about how Apple will address this with its new iPhones. Now the latest information appears that the new iPhone 15 will receive USB-C ports that will support the Thunderbolt interface. This is indicated by the leaked images and the installed Retimer chips, which are standardly present on the Thunderbolt interface. The Thunderbolt interface was jointly developed by Apple and Intel. The goal was to improve the existing USB-C interface, which would offer a higher transfer capacity.
The existing USB-C interface reaches theoretical speeds of 20 Gb/s. The USB-C Thunderbolt 3 interface offers twice the theoretical speed, i.e. up to 40 GB/s. The move to add support for the Thunderbolt interface makes sense, Apple wants to ensure maximum transfer capacity for its phones. Just for fun, iPhones are the last device from Apple that does not yet have a USB-C Thunderbolt interface. Both MacBooks and iPads have been using this interface for a few years. According to available information, the new iPhones should include a USB-C port supplemented by a 3LD3 chip, which should limit certain functions. This could be related to the fact that Apple may limit functions for non-genuine accessories.
