No keynote, no big announcement: Apple today presented a new iPad Pro atypical. But the Corona crisis does not stop at the US tech group. The new tablet is already in the store and can be ordered. It will be delivered from March 25th. Of course, you can’t go to see it for the time being, because the Apple Stores have closed not only in Switzerland, but worldwide. Except in China, where the situation has calmed down so much that the Americans have reopened their stores.
–
At first glance, not much has changed with the professional iPad. The device is still available in 11 and 12.9 inches with a fairly borderless screen. Technically, it was upgraded, so there is at least 128 GB of memory instead of 64.
–
The A12Z processor is used as the processor. Not the A13 from last autumn’s iPhone, as you might expect. The triple camera on the back is really new, so far there was only one lens on the iPads.
–
The iPad now has three sensors in the camera system
In addition to the proven 12-megapixel sensor as the main camera, there is now a wide-angle optic that resolves with 10 megapixels. The idea behind it is that you can also take videos and photos in very good quality directly with the iPad and edit them straight away.
–
The third sensor is a so-called LiDAR scanner, which means “Light Detection and Ranging”. This enables the iPad to measure distances even more precisely, which helps in the merging of reality and the artificial world. So in augmented reality applications, the Apple will probably push even more in the future.

The super keyboard costs a super price
The new keyboard is surprising in many ways. Although Apple is already launching the iPad, fans still have to be patient with the Magic Keyboard. The accessories should only come to Switzerland in May, like the one Daily scoreboard reported. In the late afternoon, Apple’s Swiss website had nothing to do with the keyboard, and the iPad description was still in English and without any technical details.
–
And the prices are tough. The keyboard costs CHF 320 for the small iPad Pro, CHF 370 even for the large iPad. Not to forget that you also pay CHF 149 extra for the pen. After all, the old keyboard is still compatible, but with CHF 200 it is not a bargain either.
–
The Magic Keyboard also has a few magical functions. So you can magnetically attach and set up the iPad so that the screen hovers in the air and can be used like a laptop. So only the keyboard is on the table, the iPad is hanging in the air. The angle of view can be adjusted continuously.
–
The additional USB-C port for the keyboard is also great. So you can easily charge the iPad and at the same time use the connection on the iPad for accessories such as cameras. The keys themselves are very reminiscent of MacBooks, and there is also a trackpad for the first time. So you can use the applications not only with buttons and touchscreen, but also with the trackpad or with a mouse. An update for the operating system should come soon, then you will see a cursor on the screen of normal computers.
–
Apple is moving iPad closer and closer to notebooks. Step by step. This will please professionals who want to use a very compact, lightweight device with a long battery life. It’s great that the new keyboard is also compatible with the latest generation of iPad Pros. So if you just bought one, you don’t have to grieve.
