Now you can download Apple’s latest iOS update for your iPhone.

The biggest news here is a brand new app, Diaryin addition to a number of small improvements.

The new diary app is Apple’s new health and wellness app. This should work as a digital diary, with pictures, text entries and video, which you can also ask to remind you to remember to write notes during the day.

There is also the option to include “spatial video”, which is what Apple calls their new 3D video function. This is a feature that was announced as available for the iPhone 15 back in September, and will make it possible to view the video in Apple’s VR glasses (which won’t arrive until next year).

Basically, it’s a simple app that should let you write a little about the day, but it should also be able to remind you to write a little about various “moments”, because it knows where you’ve been, as well as sitting in the album of photos you have yourself chosen to document, and also know which training activities you have just carried out. This can then be used as a starting point for your diary log.

When the app was presented at the developer conference WWDC back in June, Apple emphasized that all processing will be done on the device and any communication with the cloud is encrypted at both ends.

The operating system update iOS 17.2 is available for the same models that can download iOS 17, respectively iPhones dated back to the 2018 models iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR, as well as the second and third generation iPhone SE.

Other useful updates

Among the other updates that come with iOS 17.2 are the ability to set the iPhone 15 Pro’s action button to translate sentences, a new widget for the weather, and some new features for iMessage.

You now get a collection button that automatically groups everything new that has happened in an iMessage thread.

For the latter, you get, for example, a summary button which ensures that you can quickly jump to the first message in a conversation.

In addition, the iPhone 13 and 14 get Qi2 support, and apparently a faster 15W wireless charging without the need for a MagSafe-branded charger.

watchOS 10.2 also available

Also watchOS 10.2 is available. This update enables logging of health data using Siri on Apple Watch, for Series 9 and Ultra 2 owners. A function Apple states is only possible because of the new S9 chip.

You also get back the ability to scroll the watch screen to change watch faces, a feature that was removed when Apple launched watchOS 10.

tvOS 17.2 is also out now, and comes with a new sidebar to make it easier to switch between profiles, as well as a redesigned TV app.
