In the last 24 hours, Denmark has registered more than 11,000 cases of infection – a new record. The government is now proposing a number of new coronary restrictions.

– The omicron variant now accounts for every fifth case of infection, says Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
On Friday, she and the government propose several new restrictions to limit the spread of infection in the country. It is up to the Danish National Assembly, the Folketing, to approve and adopt the measures.
Among other things, the government proposes to close the country’s cinemas, museums, theaters and other parts of cultural life. Distance requirements in stores should also be introduced, says Frederiksen.
– It is not a question of shutting down society as we did in March 2020. Our goal is to keep as many parts of society open as possible, she states.
The Danish government is also investing heavily in vaccination to protect the population, and that vaccine coverage means that Denmark avoids a full shutdown.
– We still have a need to curb activity in society. We must all limit the number of social contacts, says Frederiksen.
In the last 24 hours, 11,194 Danes have tested positive for the coronavirus.
The plan is for the Danish schools to reopen on 5 January, as usual. Schools were closed earlier before Christmas to prevent the spread of infection.
