New Increase in Prices of Lafarge Egypt’s Excellent Cement

Lafarge Egypt announced a new increase in the prices of excellent cement, which will be applied from today in the building materials market, at a value of 75 pounds per ton, which is the first increase for the company during this September.

Al-Mal learned from Abd al-Khaliq Farhat, the head of the New Delta Building Materials Trading Company, that Lafarge notified its customers and agents in a letter, which included a sudden increase in production costs, bringing the ton to 2100 pounds for merchants, and the increase was implemented today 9-1-2023.

Farhat added to Al-Mal that the prices of premium cement rose to the consumer, recording about 2170 pounds per ton, after the prices increased twice during last August, explaining that the price of excellent resistant cement reaches 2160 pounds for merchants.

He pointed out that the price of excellent cement, the “finishing” type, is about 1450 pounds per ton for merchants.

Farahat explained that the market suffers from a significant stagnation in the demand for building materials, in light of the difficulties in obtaining building permits and the semi-stopping of the Reconciliation Law in building violations, which contributed to the difficulty of moving demand in the markets.

The Authority for Competition Protection and Prevention of Monopolistic Practices of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry addressed cement factories last July with its approval to extend the deadline for the decision to reduce cement production for about 23 producing companies for an additional year.

The value of the Egyptian market’s production of cement is about 80 million tons, while the actual production of cement is estimated at approximately 55 million tons, according to the latest reports issued by the Federation of Egyptian Industries.
