After four days down, the number of deaths
of the coronavirus pandemic went up again this Tuesday in
Spain, with 743 dead. But, according to the authorities, the downward trend continues.

The number of cases reported in 24 hours also increased faster, by 4.1% compared to 3.3% the day before. In total, the number of confirmed cases since the start of the crisis reached 140,510 in the country most affected by the Covid-19 behind Italy, according to figures from the Ministry of Health. “This slight increase compared to yesterday, we consider that it is due to the adjustment of the data of the weekend,” explained Dr. Maria José Sierra of the Health Alert Center, who had previously noted that the dead and weekend cases were only registered late.

Strict confinement until April 25

“In reality, the downward trend is what we continue to see in reports for the past few days,” she added, as authorities say they have stabilized the spread of the virus. Also, “although slowly, some pressure drop is starting to be seen in hospitals and intensive care units,” noted Dr. Sierra.

Another positive note, the number of patients cured continues to increase and reached Tuesday 30% (43,308) of confirmed cases. Most affected region, Madrid concentrates on Tuesday nearly a third of cases (28.8%) and 39% of the deaths, although Catalonia (north-west) has more intensive care patients than the capital.

Caution is advised in Spain where one of the strictest confinements in Europe was imposed on March 14, and must be extended until midnight April 25. The 46.6 million Spaniards can only leave their homes to buy food, get medical treatment, quickly walk their dog or go to work for activities deemed essential.
