New in the EBM: blood test to determine the fetal rhesus factor

To prevent pregnant women from receiving unnecessary anti-D prophylaxis, a blood test to determine the fetal Rhesus factor was included in the EBM. However, the service may not be provided for all pregnancies.

From July 1st, pregnant women with negative Rh factor D are entitled to have their blood tested for Rh factor D in the unborn child. This is to determine whether anti-D prophylaxis is required. However, the blood test may only be carried out from the twelfth week and only in single pregnancies. The specialist genetic counseling and laboratory tests are included in the EBM as GOP 01788 (9.34 euros) and GOP 01869 (100.68 euros).

The new services are designed to prevent blood products such as anti-D immunoglobin from being given unnecessarily. So far, all rhesus D-negative pregnant women have received anti-D prophylaxis.

The KBV points out that the information and advice obligations of the Genetic Diagnostics Act apply. The qualification “specialist genetic counseling” must be available in order to be able to provide the service.
