“Der Rausch” won the Oscar for best foreign language film, now Leonardo DiCaprio is to take on the role of Mads Mikkelsen in a remake. You can find out which films are still worth seeing this week here:
This film not only won over the FILMSTARTS editorial team, it also hit Hollywood like a bomb: “Der Rausch” by Thomas Vinterberg tells the story of a burnt-out teacher (Mads Mikkelsen) who, together with three colleagues, tries out how constant it works 0.5 per mil in the blood taught – with (initially) very positive results.
“Der Rausch” was named Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars 2021 and received the next award the day after the award ceremony: Leonardo DiCaprio and his production company secured the rights to a remake in which he was to take on the leading role.

And we also liked “Der Rausch” very much: In our FILMSTARTS review it was rated 4 out of 5 stars for “one of the best buddy tragicomedies since ‘All or nothing’”. And in the latest episode of our screen love podcast, moderator Sebastian and his guests Markus and Tobias have taken an example from “Der Rausch” and also kept their alcohol level high. Musical-Spektakel mit “In The Heights”
We also gave 4 out of 5 stars for “In The Heights”, the new musical by the jack-of-all-trades Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda wrote that for the stage in 2005, long before his mega-hit “Hamilton”, but now “In The Heights” is also available as a film musical – and fits perfectly with the summer.
The program for “In The Heights”
“In The Heights” is set in Washington Heights, a district in northern Manhattan that is shaped by various Latino communities. There, different people like Usnavi (Anthony Ramos), Nina (Leslie Grace) and Vanessa (Melissa Barrera) dance, sing and dream of love and a better life.
2x animation fun for the whole family
But two animated films are also starting today, in which the whole family can go to the cinema together again: “Spirit – free and untamed” follows on from the extremely successful Netflix animation series “Spirit: Wild and Free”. And “The Olchis – Welcome to Schmuddelfing” finally brings the dingy, friendly family their first cinema adventure.
The program for “Spirit” The program for “The Olchis”
The focus of “Spirit – free and untamed” is twelve-year-old Lucky (voice in the original: Isabela Merced), who grew up with her aunt and now wants to visit her father. On the way there she sees the Mustang Spirit and decides to save him from the brutal horse dealer Hendricks (Walton Goggins) …
In “Die Olchis – Willkommen in Schmuddelfing”, on the other hand, the Olchi family is looking for a new home, but is nowhere really welcomed. Finally they end up on the rubbish dump in the small town of Schmuddelfing, where they are welcomed by eleven-year-old Max, the brilliant Professor Brausewein and his niece Lotta, who need the help of the Olchis for their new invention …
Quirky ghost comedy with a star cast
If you like it humorous and also have a weakness for sumptuously equipped costume films, you should also take a look at “Since the spirits divide”. The remake of the play “Blithe Spirit” is brilliantly cast with Dan Stevens, Isla Fisher, Judi Dench and Leslie Mann and brings the late 1930s to life with grandiose Art Deco outfits and magnificent backdrops.
The cinema program for “Since the spirits are divided”
“The spirits are divided” is set in London in 1939: writer Charles Condomine (Dan Stevens) suffers from writer’s block from which the medium Madame Arcati (Judi Dench) is supposed to free him. After a séance, however, the ghost of his long-dead ex-wife Elvira (Leslie Mann) appears to Charles, whom only he can see. And Elvira is after Charles’ new wife Ruth (Isla Fisher) …
