What is it about?
Julie is almost 30 years old and still hasn’t settled into her life. Why not switch from studying medicine to studying psychology? She’s already trying her hand at photography.

With every change of perspective, she changes outfit and hair color. Does she really want to start a family with her boyfriend, the well-known comic artist Aksel, who is 15 years her senior? Or would it only correspond to his wishes and the expectations of society? Why not try yourself again in a different relationship? What happened if …? Julie lives in the possibility form, in a biographical gap and works in a bookstore.

What’s special?
Joachim Trier tells the story of his fickle heroine as a Bildungsroman, divided into twelve chapters, with a prologue and an epilogue. The chapters are of different lengths, confidently strike different pitches and play with the possibilities of cinema.

Sometimes the camera jumps right into a situation, sometimes episodes become independent short stories. They deal with visits to parents, dinners with friends and drug excesses.

Suddenly the world stands still when Julie falls in love again, and the title of this seventh chapter is “A New Chapter”. A narrator’s voice describes what we see anyway and emphasizes the artificiality of this experimental arrangement, which develops a surprising life of its own.

“Worst Man Alive” takes a look at the feelings of the first generation millennials, socialized in the digital age, without showing them off. Incidentally, the film takes up the discussions and debates of our time in chapters such as “The Discomfort in Culture” or “Oral Sex in the Age of MeToo”.

Conclusion
At one point, Julie will say, “I’m just a supporting actress in my life.” We watch her rehearse for the lead role. The film meanders entertainingly through its loose chapters, which are held together by the classic narrative of an Éducation sentimentale.
