New in cinemas: The “scariest film of the decade” and a western by and with “Lord of the Rings” star – Cinema News

Today, “Longlegs” is opening in German cinemas, a scary and disturbing work that horror fans should definitely not miss! There is also more for Western lovers.

Fans of horror films have already been able to enjoy a number of highlights this year. These include “Immaculate”, “Late Night With The Devil”, “The First Omen” and “MaXXXine”. But that’s not all, because “Longlegs” is the latest horror film by Oz Perkins (“Gretel & Hansel”), which is now hitting German cinemas – and after the first screenings it was already celebrated as the “scariest film of the decade”!

From today you can find out for yourself on the big screen whether this is really the case. If you need further motivation to go to the cinema to see “Longlegs”: We can only warmly recommend the film to you. In the official FILMSTARTS review, the horror thriller, which is reminiscent of “The Silence of the Lambs”, received a fantastic 4.5 out of 5 stars. Author Björn Becher’s conclusion is as follows:

“The director achieves the high quality less through the classic horror scenes and the (certainly present) explicit moments of violence, but above all through the magnificent interplay of image, sound and the excellent cast, which creates a constant feeling of fear and thus a permanent state of tension. The drastic finale with the incredibly fitting closing song “Bang A Gong (Get It On)” is ultimately the ultimate liberation – and the icing on the cake.”

And what is “Longlegs” about? FBI agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) is entrusted with an unsolved case of a serial killer (Nicolas Cage) who has been committing his more than gruesome crimes for over 30 years. Each time, a letter with occult symbols and the signature “Longlegs” was left at the crime scene. Harker manages to decipher the killer’s messages. The case gets rolling and then takes a very unexpected turn, because the investigator discovers a personal connection to the gruesome murderer.

“The Dead Don’t Hurt”: Western cinema by and with Viggo Mortensen!

If you fancy a western again, you might enjoy “The Dead Don’t Hurt”. “The Lord of the Rings” star Viggo Mortensen, lead actor, screenwriter and director in one, plays the Danish immigrant Holger, who volunteers for the armed forces after the outbreak of the civil war. His wife Vivienne (Vicky Krieps) is left alone and soon has to deal with shady characters. When the civil war ends, Holger returns home – but both have changed.

Sounds interesting? We were only partially convinced by “The Dead Don’t Hurt”. In the official FILMSTARTS review, the western received an average of 2.5 out of 5 possible stars. The conclusion of editor-in-chief Christoph Petersen is as follows: “Vicky Krieps in particular delivers an outstanding performance in this Western drama, which often slips from the lyrical into the dull and relies too much on clichés, especially with the supporting characters.”
