Opel returns with images of the future Astra. The car appears covered with a yellow-black camouflage. But what does this camouflage actually hide?
Opel announces to the fans of the legendary Astra: the new generation will be officially presented in a few weeks. Until then, the German manufacturer presents a series of images with several camouflaged prototypes, a few days after the unveiling of some teaser photos. The Germans claim that the car is on the last hundred meters.
This time, one of the prototypes appears running in winter conditions, in Sweden, near the Arctic Circle, at -30 degrees Celsius. The test circuit at Dudenhoften, as well as the laboratories at Russelheim, were the scenes of the development stages for the future Astra, before the model is approved for marketing. The test team was also joined by the company’s CEO, Michael Lohscheller.
“The demanding testing program is doing exceptionally well,” says Mariella Vogler, the model’s coordinating engineer. “The development team, which includes more women engineers than ever before, has created a new modern generation that will delight our customers.”

Under the camouflage are hidden the headlights and the grille that will follow the design of those revealed with the new Mokka. Rounded shapes, aerodynamics and modern lines can be seen once the model gets rid of camouflage.
In the images provided by Opel, nothing in the cab is visible. The instrument panel, center console, middle tunnel and even the top of the gearbox are completely covered. We know, however, that the next generation of the Pure Panel system with digital on-board instrumentation will appear there. It and the touch display will be joined under a glass cover.
For the first time in the Astra range, with the arrival of the 11th generation, electrified versions will be available, including plug-in hybrid versions. The future Opel Astra can be ordered both as a five-door hatchback and as a Sports Tourer.
The model will leave the assembly line of the Russelheim plant starting this summer.
