Jakarta –
The cellphone with the first 108 MP camera was present in 2019, namely the Xiaomi CC9, or better known as the Mi Note 10 in Indonesia. This cellphone is not included in the cheap cellphone class, because the price when it was first released was Rp. 6 million.
But now, in 2021, a new cellphone with a 108 MP camera can be purchased for less than Rp. 4 million. Namely on Redmi Note 10 Pro, the cheapest variant price is IDR 3.5 million.
Xiaomi not alone in releasing a cellphone in the middle class with a 108 MP camera, because Realme also in the near future will release a cellphone with a similar camera, namely Realme 8 Pro, although the price has not been revealed at this time, it is expected to be in the same price range.
Both of these cellphones use the same sensor, namely the Samsung Isocell HM2, which has a resolution of 108 MP. In fact, the use of sensors with this high resolution has made some doubts. Do you really need hundreds of megapixels of resolution?
“Is it really necessary to take photos with pixels that big? For most people, of course not. They take pictures and never see them again. Or if so, they upload them on a photo service and don’t really use a lot of pixels,” wrote Chris Burns of Slash Gear.
However, Xiaomi Indonesia Country Director Alvin Tse has the answer. He realizes that there are parties who underestimate the use of the 108 MP camera, but he says that this high resolution has several advantages.
“With this resolution, we can crop photos to see objects closer without losing image quality,” concluded Alvin at the launch of the Redmi Note 10 series some time ago.
The feature that Alvin refers to is digital zoom, which is done by cropping the captured photo so that the desired object looks closer. Indeed, the HM2 sensor used can do up to 3x lossless zoom, which can be achieved due to its high resolution.
Not only that, the HM2 sensor used has a 9 in 1 pixel binning feature. That is, combining 9 pixels into 1 pixel so that it can capture more light when used in low light, without experiencing a significant decrease in resolution.
“This feature is usually only available on flagship cellphones,” said Alvin at the launch event which was held on Tuesday (30/3/2021).
So, according to detikers, a camera with a 108MP sensor is important, isn’t it? Come on, try writing your opinion in the comments column.
