SARAJEVO, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) — A new hospital built as a joint venture with Chinese investment opened in the northern Bosnia-Herzegovina city of Doboj on Wednesday.
Named “Sveti Apostol Luka”, the hospital will have a total area of 28,000 square meters and a capacity of 450 beds. It will serve a population of 330,000 people in Doboj and the surrounding region.
Zeljka Cvijanovic, a member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency, said her government was committed to providing quality medical services to local residents and that the new hospital would further improve medical conditions in the country.
Miao Dake, Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, said the country’s active participation in the Belt and Road Initiative has enabled the implementation of several public utility projects such as the new hospital. He also stressed China’s commitment to sharing its most advanced medical technology and expertise to benefit more partner countries.
The hospital was jointly built by China’s Sinopharm International Corporation, Shanxi Construction Investment Group Co., Ltd. and local construction companies. It is one of the outcomes of the Eighth Summit of Heads of Government of China and Central and Eastern European Countries in 2019. End
