New health scandal in the United States: 68 individuals allegedly blinded by eye drops

Three people died. The balance sheet is extremely heavy.

In the United States, the case turns to scandal. A Florida firefighter revealed he had lost his vue in one eye after undergoing a seemingly innocuous eye drop treatment. It turns out that these drops would be contaminated at a bacterium called Pseudomonas aeruginosa also known as pyocyanin bacillus.

Artificial tears

Adam Di Sarro said with our colleagues from CBS that he had been using the product “EzriCare Artificial Tears” to moisten his left eye for several years. Until the worst happens: “Redness came on, irritation came on, lots of itching and it was abnormal. It got progressively worse, to the point where I couldn’t even see within a few hours.s. It was hard and it’s still hard because I’m still not at work, it’s been five months”.

68 victims

A doctor managed to kill the bacteria with an experimental treatment. But the damage is done. Adam lost an eye. As a result, he decided to counter-attack and present the case to the courts… American style. By filing a complaint against EzriCare and Delsam Pharma, but also against Amazon who distributed the product.

The products have been recalled. But the toll is heavy: 68 people were affected in 16 different states, three died, eight were blind, and four had to undergo partial removal of the eyeball.
