New Head of Communication in the Diocese of Aachen | DOMRADIO.DE

Happy customers from the diocese of Aachen: Marliese Kalthoff, former managing director of a media company for the tourism and mobility industry, is the new head of communications for the diocese and press spokeswoman for Bishop Helmut Der.

The media manager will take up her post on March 1, as the diocese announced on Wednesday. Kalthoff succeeds Jürgen Jansen. The theologian, who also heads the Strategic Controlling Department in the Episcopal Vicariate General, temporarily took over the task last June after his predecessor Ulrich Andree left the diocese for personal reasons after just one and a half months.

In mid-March 2020, the diocese released its long-time head of the communications department, Stefan Wieland, from work. Provost Rolf-Peter Cremer then took over the office temporarily and was replaced by Andree in mid-April. Kalthoff is therefore the fifth person to hold the office in just under a year.

Great wealth of experience

According to the diocese, Kalthoff, who came from Jülich, studied German, political science and economics in Bonn. She has been working as a journalist since 1991. From 2004 she headed the communications department at Edeka headquarters in Hamburg. In 2013 she took over the management of FVW Medien GmbH, which specializes in the tourism industry, in the Hanseatic city, where she also worked as publisher.

She gave up this post on June 30, 2020 in order to devote herself to new tasks, according to the FVW.

According to the diocese of Aachen, Kalthoff has “a wealth of experience in change management, marketing and crisis communication as well as in the development and expansion of digital formats and platforms.” Bishop He emphasized that a professional communication culture is important for the church.

This was shown by the restructuring processes in the diocese, the coming to terms with sexual violence and the reform dialogue Synodal Way. “That is why the external perspective and the company experience of Ms. Kalthoff will certainly help us to take innovative, committed and distinctive paths in communication,” said Der.
