New Hampshire Voters Express Anger and Frustration with Biden and DNC’s Dismissal of Primary Process
New Hampshire voters are growing increasingly frustrated with President Biden and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) over their decision to dismiss the Granite State in the 2024 primary process. Many voters are expressing anger that Biden won’t be on the ballot and feel disregarded by the move.
The Democratic Party’s decision to begin the primary process with South Carolina instead of New Hampshire has sparked backlash from voters. Some have even suggested a write-in campaign to ensure there isn’t an upset from either of Biden’s primary challengers, Dean Phillips or Marianne Williamson. However, not all New Hampshire voters are supportive of this proposal.
“I’m kind of angry about it,” one voter said. “And some people have said, why should we write his name in when he won’t even give us the time of day?”
“We’re disappointed this year not to have the Democratic primary, and that’s why we’re doing this because it’s not meaningless like the DNC says,” another voter added. “It really is meaningful.”
Many voters feel that the Democratic National Committee’s assertion that the New Hampshire primary is not relevant or real is simply nonsense.
Rep. Dean Phillips, a moderate Minnesota representative, launched his campaign to oust President Biden back in October. He has invested millions of his own dollars into what some see as a longshot campaign. However, with Biden not on the ballot, there are concerns that Phillips could gain momentum in the race.
When asked where he needs to finish in New Hampshire’s primary, Phillips responded, “[W]e started at zero just 10 weeks ago. My name is not yet well known. And I think getting in the 20s would be an extraordinary accomplishment.”
Although this seems like a lowering of expectations from a few weeks earlier, a recent poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire/CNN indicates that Phillips is far from reaching that goal. He currently stands at 10%, just one point ahead of bestselling author Marianne Williamson, who is making her second straight White House run.
Interestingly, 63% of those surveyed in the poll said they would write in Biden’s name.
Former New Hampshire congressional candidate Matt Mowers predicts that Phillips will perform better than expected in the race, although he cautions that it won’t be an upset for the incumbent president.
“It is going to be a closer-than-expected scare for Joe Biden,” Mowers stated.
President Biden has been facing ongoing concerns about his age and mental acuity as he prepares for the 2024 presidential election. His historically low approval ratings and dwindling support among key voting blocs nationwide have raised doubts among Democrats about his chances of prevailing against former President Trump. Some left-wing operatives have even suggested that Biden should step aside to allow a different candidate to have a chance at victory.
“I think he’s [Dean Phillips] going to overperform what many folks were expecting,” Mowers commented. “Recent polls show he might even be getting close to a third of the vote, or somewhere in the 20s. If he does that, it’s certainly a message to Joe Biden about frustration from Democratic Party activists, and whether that’s because of overall dissatisfaction with his administration or potentially because he decided to try to kill off the first-in-the-nation primary here in New Hampshire.”
The anger and frustration expressed by New Hampshire voters highlight the deep divisions within the Democratic Party. As the primary process unfolds, it remains to be seen how these sentiments will impact Biden’s chances of securing the nomination for the 2024 presidential election.
