According to reports InternetThursday (22/8/2024), citing senior Egyptian officials, Sinwar stressed the need to guarantee his safety, and that Israel don’t try to kill him.
“Sinwar asked for a guarantee that his safety and security were guaranteed,” the Egyptian official said.
The report said that Sinwar, who rose to the top of the Hamas leadership after the assassination of the former leader; Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran on July 31, said that if Israel could agree to his demands, a ceasefire agreement would be possible.
The addition of the new demands, which Hamas has not confirmed, comes after months of Sinwar engaging in cease-fire and hostilities exchanges, demanding that Hamas maintain fighting until Israel is destroyed.
In June, messages were released by Wall Street Journal revealed the “cold calculation” of Sinwar, who believed that the tens of thousands of people killed in Gaza were a “necessary sacrifice”.
“Our Israelis are right where we want them,” Sinwar told negotiators as he urged Hamas to reject a ceasefire agreement earlier this year.
He also made similar comments about his murdered sons, saying their deaths would only “breathe life into the veins of the Palestinian nation”, encouraging it to rise to its glory and honor.
Sinwar, who has continued to avoid Israel’s military, has reportedly changed his stance after being selected as Haniyeh’s successor.
