REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) of the Ministry of Religion establishes a nationally valid halal label, which adopts the form of a gunungan on wayang. As quoted in the ministry’s press release received in Jakarta, Saturday (12/3/2022), the determination of the halal label that applies nationally is contained in the Decree of the Head of BPJPH Number 40 of 2022 concerning the Determination of the Halal Label which is effective as of March 1, 2022.

Head of BPJPH Muhammad Aqil Irham said that the determination of the halal label was part of the implementation of the provisions of Article 37 of Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantee and Government Regulation Number 39 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of the Halal Product Assurance Sector. Aqil said that the Indonesian halal label philosophically adapts Indonesian values.

Arabic letters composing the word halal which consists of ha, lam alifand blue arranged in a shape resembling a mountain in a puppet. “The form of the Indonesian halal label consists of two objects, namely the form of gunungan and the surjan or striated motif. shadow Puppets which is five -shaped, tapered upwards, this symbolizes human life, “he said.

According to him, the shape of the gunungan illustrates that the higher the knowledge and the older the age, humans must become more conical or closer to the Creator. The surjan motif on the halal label also contains a philosophical meaning.

The neck of the surjan has buttons of three pairs or six seeds, which represent the pillars of faith, and the striated motifs parallel to each other have the meaning of giving clear boundaries. The main and secondary colors of the Indonesian halal label also have meaning.

“The purple (main) color represents the meaning of faith, inner and outer unity, and the power of imagination. While the secondary color is turquoise green, which represents the meaning of wisdom, stability, and serenity,” said Aqil.

The meaning contained in the shape and color of the halal label is in line with the purpose of implementing the Halal Product Guarantee in Indonesia to provide comfort, security, safety, and certainty of the availability of halal products for the community.

Secretary of BPJPH Muhammad Arfi Hatim said the Indonesian halal label would be a sign that a product has been guaranteed halal and has a halal certificate from BPJPH. The Indonesian halal label must be included on the product packaging, certain parts of the product, and/or certain places on products that have obtained halal certification.

Arfi said, in accordance with the provisions of Article 25 of Law Number 33 concerning Halal Product Guarantee, the inclusion of a halal label is one of the obligations of business actors who have obtained a halal certificate. In addition, business actors are also required to consistently maintain product halalness, ensure that all aspects of production are protected from non-halal products, renew the halal certificate when the validity period of the halal certificate expires, and report changes in the composition of materials to BPJPH.

“Let’s use this Indonesian halal label according to the provisions, as a marker that makes it easier for all of us, all Indonesian people, to identify products that have been guaranteed and have halal certificates issued by BPJPH,” he said.
