LONDON – EasyJet has decided: there will be a new squeeze on hand luggage that can be brought on board the aircraft starting from February.
The company announced this through a press release. Thus, the seat chosen by the customer will soon determine the size of the hand baggage allowed.
“All customers will be able to bring on board a bag under the lower cabin seat for free”, the carrier explains, “and only customers who book an” Up front “or” Extra legroom “seat will be able to bring an additional bag for the upper cabin “.
In short, in order to carry hand luggage that is not just a small bag, certain selected seats must be booked in advance. But how many are they? “There are between 42 and 63 front seats and extra leg seats available on board each flight depending on the type of aircraft, and their cost starts at around £ 8 (around 9.5 CHF),” he explains. easyjet.
According to the company, the new policy will improve boarding efficiency and punctuality, and give customers the certainty of what they will have on board. In short, it will no longer happen that “a hand luggage can end up in the hold due to the limited space on board,” confirms Robert Carey, easyJet’s Commercial Director and Customer Manager.
The new dimensions – The new policy provides that all customers can take a small hand luggage / backpack on board for free (max 45x36x20cm) which must be placed under the front seat. For easyjet, these dimensions “allow you to bring all the essentials for a short trip”.
On the other hand, customers who have booked an “Up front” or “Extra legroom” seat will be able to take an additional hand baggage (max 56x45x25cm) on board, which will travel in the overhead bins.
“EasyJet Plus cardholders and FLEXI fare customers will continue to have additional hand baggage included in their booking, as long as there is room on board,” adds easyJet.
Have you already booked? – Customers who have already booked a trip that will take place after 10 February and who have already booked an “Up front” or “Extra legroom” seat do not need to make any changes to their reservation and can bring a larger hand luggage.
On the other hand, those who have not reserved a seat will only be able to take a small hand luggage on board under the seat. However, to accommodate customers, easyJet offers a free “Hands Free” service in these cases, which means these customers will be able to arrive at the airport with their hand baggage and, by going to the baggage drop desk, they will be able to place the “big” baggage for free.
“The new policy will apply to all bookings made from now on for travel from 10 February 2021,” concludes easyjet.
