Since the start of the health crisis, cinemas have been the subject of special attention by the City of Paris, which released in October 2020 an exceptional budget of € 438,000 to help 35 cinemas mainly classified Art & Essay to pass the difficult course of 301 cumulative days of closure.
–
On the occasion of this Paris Council in June 2021, € 884,000 in operating grants to 33 cinemas were voted. Additional aid was also granted to a few local cinemas, particularly involved in the animation of neighborhoods, such as the Entrepôt (14e), Wooden Sword (5e) or l’Escurial (13e).
–
During the closure, several cinemas took the opportunity to renovate their spaces and undertake work of varying magnitude thanks to an investment envelope of € 150,000 from the City of Paris. For example, support was given to the 7 Parnassiens cinema (14e), which completely renovated the entire establishment (facade, sign, lobby, screens, armchairs, toilets).
–
The City of Paris also supported the Cinéma l’Archipel (10e), the Latin Quarter Film Library (5e), the Majestic Bastille (11e) as well as Studio 28 (18e) for the renovation of their rooms.
–
Other projects will sustainably improve the landscape of independent Parisian cinema, including the renovation of the Pagoda (7e), the modernization of the Wooden Sword (5e) and the extension of the Grand Action (5e).
