The new generation version of the Enyaq electric model of the Czech automaker Škoda is expected in 2028 and it is planned that it will be the first Škoda model on a new electric car platform. It is in conversation with Autocar said Škoda CEO Klaus Celmers.
As is known, closer to the end of the decade, the new SSP electric car platform is expected, which will gradually replace the current MEB platform, becoming the backbone of the electric model family of the Volkswagen concern. The Enyaq is expected to be the first Škoda model to be built on it, with other models to follow later, of course. It’s no secret that Škoda is going to come up with several more electric models in the next few years, but they will use the MEB platform and different versions of it.
In a slightly broader context, Volkswagen is expected to introduce the next-generation electric Golf, which will replace the current model, around the same time. As for the Enyaq, Celmers said that work is underway on the development of the car, so it is too early to say how different the new generation model will be from the current car. True, given that the current Enyaq is a successful model, Škoda is unlikely to want to change much.
For now, there is little information about the SSP platform – mainly talk about the fact that its release into production is being postponed for various reasons. Rumor has it that VW will use an 800V battery system on this platform, which will provide very high charging capacity. Also, a new battery structure developed by VW itself is being prepared, which will be used in all the brands of the concern.
The chairman of the board of the concern, Olivers Blume, previously stated that many more different parts on the SSP platform will be standardized and identical for all manufacturers of the concern – this will reduce production costs and the prices of electric machines should become equivalent to conventional internal combustion engine machines.
