Apple CarPlay has become one of the basic elements of the car equipment for most drivers. What can we look forward to in the next generation?
Apple has been working on a new generation of the popular CarPlay app for drivers for several years. After a short hiatus, it is now certain that it will appear in the first cars during the course of next year. The first brands to use the new generation of CarPlay will be Porsche and Aston Martin.
A fundamental change from CarPlay as we know it today is its integration into all available digital screens in the car, as shown in the images of the American company. This will also include the screen in front of the passenger, as seen in the latest models from Porsche.
For the first time, Apple came up with this news back in 2022 at the Apple World Wide Developer Conference, and it took some time for the company to polish the application to imaginary perfection.
Automakers, including Mercedes-Benz, don’t like the idea of CarPlay taking over most of the car’s controls. Even so, Mercedes is one of the automakers that fully cooperates with Apple on the new CarPlay.
“Deeper integration with the car will allow users to do things like control the radio or change the temperature directly through CarPlay, and using the vehicle data, CarPlay will show the speed, fuel level, temperature and many other information on the instrument cluster,” Apple said. At the same time, he adds that in no case does he intend to use the function to track the car or to store any information about the vehicle.
Aston Martin has said that the next generation of Apple CarPlay will be available from the DB12 and DB12 Volante models. How it will be with other car manufacturers and whether the new generation will be able to connect with older cars is not certain. For now, the following list of cars is available, for which the new generation of Apple CarPlay will appear sooner or later:
