The 55th Super Bowl is just around the corner. On Sunday, February 7th, 2021 the time has come. Fans and enthusiasts only have to wait one week for the American football event of the year to be broadcast worldwide. Every year the Super Bowl is one of the most important sporting events in the whole world and is celebrated unprecedented by many spectators.
Usually people get together all over the world to watch the game together, but also to have a good time together, to eat and drink with friends. Even people regularly watch the Super Bowl who have nothing to do with the sport and often don’t even know the rules.
But this year the celebrations surrounding the final of the NFL season will also differ drastically from previous years. Almost everywhere in the world it is still not wise and in most cases it is strictly forbidden to meet several people. Therefore, communication and togetherness over the Internet helps us once again.
Rocket League helps
Sports enthusiasts can also celebrate the most important football moment of the year this year in the virtual car soccer hit Rocket League from developer Psyonix. An event will take place in the game that not only brings back the NFL Fan Pack, in which you will find numerous designs for your cars in the style of the NFL teams, but also integrates a completely new 4 vs. 4 game mode.
This is called “Gridiron” and quickly replaces the normal ball with an American football. We already know a similar concept from the modes baskets (basketball) and snow-free (ice hockey) in which we have to drive against basketball or puck instead of against football in order to get it into the opposing goal or basket.
The Gridiron rules
From February 2nd and then until February 8th there will be the first Gridiron game mode in Rocket League, which awaits us with some further changes in the game mechanics in addition to football. The following things are special in Gridiron:
- The mode is played in 4 vs. 4 with an American football.
- Each time it is touched, the ball is attached to your own roof (similar to the spike power-up).
- Simple jumps are possible, double jumps lead to loss of control.
- While in possession of the ball, every touch of another car releases control and takes it over itself.
- The football can be passed by the evasive movement.
- Each “goal” is worth 3 or 7 points – just like in football.
-> There are seven points if you arrive at the opponent’s goal with the football under control at the car.
-> There are three points if the football is passed into the goal or is not controlled by anyone.
-> Every own goal is worth three points, regardless of whether the football is under control or not. - You still have to be “supersonic” for destruction.
- Stay in the field – you lose control of the ball if you come over the marked line on the arena wall.
Event rewards
Of course, Psyonix will not miss the opportunity to equip you with some new challenges and rewards for the event. You can earn the “Gridiron Guru” player title, the “NFL” tires and 20,000 XP through special challenges during the event period.
As mentioned at the beginning, the NFL Fan Pack is also returning in the same form in which it was already available in the past. So if you missed the chance to strike back then, you can get the many decals from February 2nd to 8th again.
