New French Nuclear Power Plant Postpones Operation Again to Mid-2024, 12 Years Delayed | | National News

[Paris Joint]Electricity France (EDF) declared on the 16th that further works will be necessary for the new European pressurized water reactor (EPR) under construction at the Flamanville nuclear power plant, in the north-west of the country. -The June 2020 quarter will be postponed to the January-March 2024 quarter. According to local media, it is expected to start operating in mid-2024, 12 years behind the original plan.

Japan’s first EPR was scheduled to go online in 2012, but was repeatedly delayed due to design and construction flaws. Construction costs will increase from 12.7 billion euros (about 1.84 trillion yen) to 13.2 billion euros. The initial estimate was around 3.3 billion euros.
