New fraud method for Apple users: Does not close without money

Despite Apple’s allegedly diligent “App Review” process, a new scam for macOS has been spotted on the company’s App Store.

The application called My Metronome on Apple computers (macOS) forces its users to pay a monthly subscription of $ 9.99. The application prevents the menu bar or keyboard shortcuts from being used until the subscription is completed.

According to the news in ShiftDelete; experts think that the developer behind My Metronome has tried various techniques over the years to improve this technique. Although My Metronome was removed from the App Store after complaints, there are other applications offered by the same developer. Music Paradise, which demands a ‘ransom’ from its users, also has an application called Groove Vibes.

USERS CANNOT LOG IN

Experts who test these applications state that the applications welcome their users with a subscription panel. Along with the Music Paradise Player application, the company’s other two applications hide the close option in the menu bar, preventing users from logging out. In addition, three other applications developed by Groove Vibes allowed users to exit using the menu bar or pressing Command+Q.

Unlike ransomware, these apps do not lock users’ files. Instead, it prevents users from easily closing apps, so people fall for the scammers’ game and pay for subscriptions.

Surprisingly, all these scam apps seem to have passed Apple’s App Review process. Apple has added a “Report a Problem” button to the App Store against fraudulent apps like this.
