European Space Agency published new photo taken by the James Webb Space Telescope. In the frame, the main focus is on the spiral galaxy LEDA 2046648, located a billion light-years from Earth in the constellation Hercules.
Behind this galaxy, a scattering of even more distant galaxies is visible – the shapes of some can also be seen, while others appear only as bright dots against a black background.
Although the image was just released, it was taken last summer, during the process of checking the NIRISS instrument, attention was focused on the white dwarf, at the same time, the infrared sensor was able to point at this galaxy and receive another reminder of how vast space is. And what we see in these frames is hopelessly outdated information.
If since then life has arisen in the LEDA galaxy and progressed to travel between stars and build megastructures, we will only know about it hundreds of millions of years later. True, it is impossible to say what humanity will be like even in a thousand years, far from a million.
