At The Game Awards, Square Enix revealed a whole bunch of new information about Forspoken, formerly known as Project Athia. We saw more magical parkour options, got to know the villain of this story and more.
Most important, however, was the release date, which is May 24, 2022. The game will then come to PC and PlayStation 5, with two years of console exclusivity. Those who swear by Microsoft’s platform will therefore have to be patient for a while.
It was also revealed during the show that Forspoken villain Tanta Prav will be portrayed by actress Pollyanna McIntosh. You probably know her as Jadis in The Walking Dead, Ælfgifu in Vikings: Valhalla or Bella in 2011’s Dante’s Inferno. She will be the opponent of Ella Balinska, who brings Frey Holland to life. “It was great playing Tanta Prav and I look forward to when players meet her and experience her as Frey does: a cruel, ruthless power surrounded by riddles,” says McIntosh. “For players traveling with Frey go into the land of Athia, she will prove a ruthless adversary.”
In Forspoken, Frey is taken against her will to Athia, a mysterious realm weighed down by the Break. This miasma ruins everything it comes into contact with, but for some reason Frey seems to be immune to it. For some this gives hope, but for others it is a sign of more bad things to come. Breakzombies and Jabberwock are just a few of the creatures that call the Break home and that you see fighting Frey in this trailer.
With this reveal, the Digital Deluxe Edition of Forspoken has also been unveiled, which is now available for pre-order. This includes a Rare Resoure Kit (PS5 only), a mini artbook, mini soundtrack and a DLC that serves as a prequel. Those who actually pre-order this and don’t buy it until release will also receive the No Limits Cloak, Symbol Combo Necklace, Trigger Happy Nails and Crafting Starter Kit DLCs on PS5 or the Elite Cloak, Spectra Combo Necklace and Overclock Nails on PC. You will also receive these bonuses if you reserve the regular edition.
