Some of the rules around penalties will change. The International Board (IFAB), the body that regulates football laws, revealed the changes on Saturday.
When the penalty is taken, the ball must touch or pass the center of the mark. Until now, players often placed the ball as far forward as possible, only slightly touching the line closest to the goal. Entry into the area by players other than the foul scorer will only be punished if they have influence. Finally, non-deliberate cuts with the hand are now treated like other fouls, that is, they no longer require expulsion.
Contrary to what was requested by several analysts and players in the game, the VAR protocol remains unchanged. Also the controversial blue card (exclusion of players for ten minutes) does not advance. The IFAB has made the extra substitution permanent in the case of cerebral commotion. It is up to each league to decide if and when to implement the measure.
