Children under the age of six months to five years will be able to receive, for the first time, the flu vaccine in Castilla-La Mancha. Is about a new coverage that will take place throughout Spain during this campaign -until now only children with underlying pathologies were vaccinated- and which aims to reach 1.6 million children throughout the country.
This was announced this Wednesday by the spokesperson for the regional government, Esther Padilla, who has appeared at a press conference to report on the issues approved by the Governing Council. Among them, the acquisition of 600,000 doses for the next campaign in the region, which will begin in October.
As Padilla explained, the Government of Emiliano García-Page is going to invest more than seven million euros to purchase these vaccines, of which four large groups will benefit: over 60 years of age, with special emphasis on those who live in closed institutions, the chronically ill, people who can transmit the flu to others of greater vulnerability and those who, due to their occupation, may be more exposed to viruses, such as health workers.
Last year, vaccination was done in descending order, starting with people aged 80 or over and progressively decreasing to 60 years. Subsequently, the other risk groups were vaccinated.
Once the most vulnerable groups were protected, the possibility of receiving the flu dose was extended to all Castilian-La Mancha over six years old who would like to receive it. To do this, those interested could request an appointment from the phone, the app or the SESCAM website.
Other issues
Likewise, it will be made available to the public covid-19 vaccine booster for pregnant women and other risk groups such as those over 60 and chronically ill.
In addition, the Governing Council has also authorized the hiring of the delivery of the monoclonal antibody against the disease produced by the respiratory syncytial virus -the main cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia in minors- for 3.2 million euros.
Lastly, it has given the green light to the extension of the social services contract for the management of the residence for the elderly in Carboneras de Guadazaón (Cuenca) and has authorized the contracting authority the tender for the comprehensive management of the nursing home in Priego, also in the province of Cuenca, for a total amount between the two projects of 6.6 million euros.
