“New Fire Erupts at Deer Park Refinery in Texas, Pemex Issues Alert – Reported by Crónica de Xalapa”

A new fire was registered this Tuesday, March 14, inside the facilities of the Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) Deer Park refinery, in Texas. This is the second incident in less than three weeks that has occurred at the site.

The company notified the Reuters agency through an email that work was already underway to turn it off: “The site’s emergency response team is on site and working to mitigate the incident.”

Similarly, the fire was said to be under control within the refinery premises. Deer Park has the capacity to process more than 300,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

On February 23, another fire burned at the facility. The emergency team took an hour to mitigate the fire, and renewed its activities afterwards; However, on the same day, two more accidents were recorded at two other Pemex facilities: in Ixhuatlán, Veracruz; and in Minatitlan.

The accident in Ixhuatlán, in the Tuzandepetl Cavity, left people injured and some missing who were later found dead; Also, the one that occurred in Minatitlán left five people injured.
