New Features Prepared So Teens No Longer Stress When Using Instagram

Suara.com – Instagram will introduce new features to keep teen users away from harmful content and encourage them to take a break from the platform.

“We’re going to introduce something that I think will make a big difference, where our system sees that a teenager is viewing the same content over and over again, and that may not be good for their well-being. We’re going to encourage them to look at other content,” said the vice president. of Global Affairs Facebook, Nick Clegg, quoted from The Verge, Monday (11/10/2021).

Apart from keeping content away, Clegg said that the company plans to introduce a feature called ‘Take a Break’. This feature allows teenage users to take a break from using Instagram.

Clegg did not provide information when these two new features were released. A Facebook spokesperson, contacted by The Verge, also said that the company will indeed release the feature.

A Facebook spokesperson referred to the post on the Instagram blog. In a blog written last September, Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri said that his party was exploring these two features.

“We’re exploring two new features: encouraging users to look at other topics if they think of content that influences comparisons, and a tentative feature called take a break,” said Mosseri.

According to Mosseri, the take a break feature allows users to pause their time on Instagram and consider whether the time they spend there is meaningful or not.

Facebook itself has been under criticism in recent days. Previously, the Wall Street Journal report uploaded a report on Facebook research that said Instagram had a bad impact on teenagers.

Then came former Facebook officials who allege that the company is more concerned with profit than protection of users.
