MATA INDONESIA, JAKARTA – Corona virus disease or Covid-19 has encountered new facts regarding symptoms. This leads to the symptoms of the elderly who are exposed to the corona virus.

Some of the elderly (elderly) do not show typical symptoms when infected with Covid-19. Instead of a sore throat or cough, the symptoms of Covid-19 in the elderly are indicated by changes in behavior, including dementia.

Medical staff of the Department of Internal Medicine, Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, dr. Soedjono said the elderly patient he handled did not show typical Covid-19 symptoms during the initial examination. The average person experiences common complaints such as loss of appetite.

“These elderly people usually just lose their appetite, it’s not unique at all, all of a sudden they are already positive,” said Soedjono at the Graha BNPB Covid-19 Task Force Media Center, Wednesday, October 14 2020.

Soedjono emphasized that elderly companions should be sensitive to this change. In fact, changes in behavior accompanied by dementia can indicate a serious illness behind them.

Indeed, there are many phenomena of patients being exposed to the corona virus but not showing common symptoms such as coughing, fever and respiratory problems. However, it needs to be noted again that Covid-19 sometimes does not show the symptoms above.

Especially for the elderly. If the patient suddenly experiences a change in attitude such as lack of appetite, confusion to dementia, even though there are no symptoms of fever and respiratory problems, a companion still needs wasapada.

Head of SMF Pulmonology RSPI Sulianti Saroso Adrian Rusli emphasized that the elderly caregiver must be sensitive enough. Even those around him must be recognized and absolutely sterile.

Head of the Covid-19 Task Force, Doni Monardo also reminded that the risk of dying among the elderly exposed to Covid-19 is very high. Until now the risk of death has reached 80-85 percent.
