New Executive Board Appointed for All 21 Water Boards: Updates on Water Board Elections and Coalition Agreements

More than three months after the elections, all 21 water boards have a new executive board. The Water Board of Schieland and Krimpenerwaard was the last to appoint a board on Thursday.

The board there consists of representatives of Water Naturally, VVD, PvdA and the combined Onbouw and Natuurterreinen fractions. All water boards had to form a new council by this Thursday at the latest.

Water, of course, won six seats in Schieland and Krimpenerwaard in the water board elections on 15 March – at the same time as the Provincial Council elections – making it the largest party.

The coalition agreement in this water board is called Working together on future-proof water management in turbulent times. The BBB, which received three seats, has not been given a place in the executive board. The BBB group called the four-page coalition agreement “disappointing, unambitious and financially ill-founded”.

Other parties were also critical of the agreement and said they lacked vision. In most other water boards, the BoerBurgerBeweging is part of the board.

Half of the twelve Dutch provinces now have a new coalition: Limburg, Gelderland, Zeeland, Flevoland, South Holland and Groningen. Negotiations are still underway in the other provinces. Friesland and North Brabant saw a formation fail at the last minute. Both provinces are now negotiating a coalition in a new composition.
