Eurostar trains will depart from Amsterdam and Rotterdam from June. The company behind the high-speed trains decided this, in the hope of being able to transport travelers to London in this way.
Due to a renovation of Amsterdam Central station, it previously became clear that from June 14, direct Eurostar trains will no longer be able to run to London for six months. There is temporarily no room for passport controls at the station.
To accommodate travelers on the popular train connection, Eurostar has now decided not to cancel the three daily trains but to run as far as Brussels, instead of London. The intention is for travelers to go through passport control there and transfer to a train to London.
Transfer time
According to Eurostar, travelers will not notice any difference in travel time with the relocation of the checks. Now travelers must arrive in Amsterdam 45 minutes in advance for passport control. “They will soon lose that time at the controls in Brussels when they transfer there to the train to London,” says the chairman of Eurostar.
The renovation plans at Amsterdam Central station do not affect the journey from London to Rotterdam and Amsterdam. These trains will continue to run during the renovation, without passengers having to transfer. This is possible because travelers to the Netherlands already pass customs and passport control in London.
When the renovation of Amsterdam Central Station is completed, more people will be able to take the train to London from the station. Now the passport control at the station can only handle 250 people per train. From next year there should be 650 due to more space and staff. Another 170 can be added in Rotterdam.
