The latest edition of the Euro NCAP crash tests includes the results of three Hyundai models. Ioniq 5 and Tucson managed it with five stars, Bayon lost one star in the rehearsals.

Euro NCAP has released the latest batch of results from its crash tests. This time, safety was tested on five models. Specifically, there were three Hyundai models – Bayon city crossover, electric Ioniq 5 and compact SUV Tucson, which complemented the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Toyota Yaris Cross.
At the same time, four cars received the full number of five stars, with the exception of only the Hyundai Bayon, with four stars. The city crossover, which served as the character successor to the former MPV ix20, was lost mainly due to electronic assistants. The testers did not like autonomous braking, which reacted weakly to the presence of other vehicles.
But gaps were also found in the protection of the crew. In a frontal impact, dangerous parts of the dashboard become dangerous for the crew, which can injure their feet. The bigger problem, however, was the side impact, Bayon lacks measures to mitigate injuries in such a case, so the passenger’s body can be thrown to the other side of the cabin. In the case of child protection, the manikin simulating children aged 10 showed weak chest protection. On the contrary, pedestrian protection was exemplary, the one in the bumper area was rated as good.
Although the Hyundai Tucson achieved five stars, Euro NCAP also noticed certain mistakes. In the event of a frontal impact, the driver’s chest was weaker, and the measured compression of this part was relatively high. In the event of a side impact, the center airbag in the front helped. This pedestrian protection is then weak in the area of the bumper and the edge of the bonnet, as is customary. Like Bayon, the Tucson reacted worse to surrounding vehicles during autonomous braking tests.
An error was also found in the Toyota Yaris Cross, which with its five stars followed on from other recently tested models of the brand, the Mirai and Yaris. In this case, they proved to be risky parts of the dashboard in the event of a frontal impact. For example, pedestrian protection was largely good, and assistance systems also deserved praise.
In terms of crew protection, the Ford Mustang Mach-E was the best this time, gaining 92% points in the adult protection rating. However, the analysis of the deformation barrier showed that the Mach-E Mustang is an “aggressive” adversary for other vehicles.
