The hospital center‘Avranches-Granville regularly invests in new equipment.
This year, the service of neonatology acquired equipment for the care of babies.
This service supports on average 350 newborns each year, “is the only site in La Manche to have one,” assures the hospital’s communications officer.
Fragile health
Newborns, with more fragile health, need special monitoring and technical care. The Avranches hospital has thus acquired an incubator. This device “provides optimal heat during care,” says the press release from the hospital.
It has a heated mattress and a radiant lamp that maintains a stable temperature. The incubator aims to keep the infant in a warm environment, with a specific humidity level. As everyone knows, warmth is essential for the baby.
Respiratory support
The Avranches-Granville hospital has also acquired a biphasic. This respiratory assistance device, in the form of nasal glasses, allows better opening of the pulmonary alveoli and thus better gas exchange, by supporting the child’s breathing in a non-invasive manner.
It aims to avoid intubation, an act of resuscitation not covered at the Avranches site. Thanks to biphasic, the complications associated with intubation, the risks of pneumo-thorax, inflammation and chronic pneumopathy are avoided.
This equipment will prevent the transfer of fragile babies to other establishments, “they will remain in complete safety near their parent, which is essential for the link at birth”, assures the hospital.
