F-35 aircraft are expected to be constantly improved and modernized during their lifetime. The first “continuous” modernization program C2D2 (Continuous Capability Development and Delivery) began in 2019. The goal of the program is to introduce an improved version of the F-35 Block 4.
New software features (every six months) and new hardware are expected to be phased in to the current F-35 so that the resulting F-35 Block 4 reaches full capability in 2029.
The F-35 Block 4 version will, among other things, receive a new computer core from the L3Harris company, new radar and electro-optical sensor (EOTS) functions, a modified 8×20-inch display in the cockpit or improved electronic warfare (EB) systems.
