MONTREAL, May 30, 2021 / CNW Telbec / – Members of the Syndicat des employee.es de Vidéotron ltée (SEVL-2815) ratified by 88% the agreement in principle reached between the Union and the employer at the end of April. The new contract ensures industrial peace for the Quebec telecommunications giant until 2025.
“We are generally very satisfied with the outcome. With this new collective agreement, we have succeeded in securing our jobs and protecting our assets. In addition, we are happy that there was a good participation in the virtual general assembly ”, has explained Nick Mingione, president of SEVL-SCFP 2815
Nearly 1,500 people gathered to learn about the agreement and vote. The contract is for a period of seven years and offers salary increases in excess of 15% over this period, including two retroactive years.
“Among the other gains we mention that we have agreed to the terms of teleworking and we have negotiated an agreement for a four-day work week for certain functions”, to add Martin Larose, CUPE union advisor.
The nearly 3,000 Videotron employees had no employment contract since December 31, 2018.
With nearly 122,000 members in Quebec, CUPE represents some 7,100 members of the communications sector in Quebec. CUPE is also present in the following sectors: social affairs, education, universities, energy, municipalities, state corporations and public bodies, air and ground transport, the mixed sector as well as maritime transport. It is the largest union affiliated with the FTQ.
