Companies in the Kempen sometimes literally lay out the red carpet on Saturday for people who want to come and work for them. More than a hundred companies open their doors to the public in the hope that people will be excited to come and work there. And it works, because the first applications have already been received at some companies.
Those who want to be unemployed nowadays seem to have to do their best. The vacancies are there for the taking and companies are crying out for staff. This is also the case at Borrenbergs Bouwbedrijf in Luyksgestel. Anyone who makes an open application with the right education or knowledge can get started right away, says director Jacky Borrenbergs. “But those people just aren’t there. So we try to train them ourselves.”
At the construction company it is quite busy on Saturday on the open company day. A few hundred people come to watch. Often because family or friends work there and people are curious about how things are going at the company. But there are also people who actually want to come and work. “At a quarter past ten this morning we already received the first application,” says Borrenbergs.
Joost (22) from Luyksgestel is one of the visitors who is seriously planning to apply. “I’m here because I’m interested and because Borrenbergs is a great company.” What attracts Joost to the construction is that the atmosphere is informal and that he likes to stand on the scaffolding.
It is also busy on the open day at Brans Metalworking in Bergeijk. “Our approach was mainly to show people, and youth in particular, what we do here,” says director Rolf Brans. “We make parts for machines and that is really very broad.”
Because it is very difficult to find staff, Brans now works with schools. Pupils then receive a tour and an explanation about the metal trade. Whether the open day will also yield applications remains to be seen.
It has been known for some time that care is short of hands. The red carpet was therefore literally rolled out at the Valkenhof care center in Valkenswaard for visitors to the open company day. Upon entering, a large board with the vacancies is ready. “People are always welcome to come and work here. We also offer apprenticeships,” says Lilian van der Maat, communications officer at the company.
The company day is already a success for Valkenhof, because several people who came to watch have already been hired. This way they are short of hands again.
