With the start of the new kindergarten and school year 2024/25, a new educational facility went into operation in the 21st district on Hinaysgasse, on the site of the former Floridsdorf hospital. The new educational location was named after the musician, singer and activist Willi Resetarits.
On an area of around 10,300 m2, users have access to a 7-group kindergarten, 17 classes of an all-day elementary school and a 16-class all-day middle school – a wide range of educational opportunities for around 1,600 children. As further leisure and educational offerings, a music school and a self-sufficient youth center with separate entrances were integrated into the building.
Music school and youth center
The Floridsdorf music school has moved to Hinaysgasse 1. Here, children and young people are offered the opportunity to attend groups for elementary music making, instrument carousel, choir, bands and orchestras, as well as to take part in instrumental and vocal lessons. Making music together is the heart of music school work. The singing school is also represented by the Wiener KinderStimmen and the Wiener ABChor. For this purpose, modern teaching, rehearsal and ensemble rooms were built on a total of 650 m2.
In the new FloDo youth center, a facility of the Vienna Youth Centers Association, children, teenagers and young people have a wide variety of opportunities to spend their free time on around 550 m². There is a large youth café with seating, billiards, Wuzzler as well as a bar and kitchen area. In the multi-purpose room there are, among other things, table tennis tables, a dart machine and a DJ console for disco operations. Three additional group rooms are equipped differently and can be used in a variety of ways. There is also the opportunity to use the gymnasiums, the open spaces and the hard court of the educational institution as well as the band rehearsal room of the music school. The youth center team is also out and about in all youth-relevant parks and squares in Grätzl as part of mobile youth work.
Modern and ecological architecture and design
The project was realized by WIP Wiener Infrastructure Projekt GmbH, a company of the Wien Holding subsidiary WSE Wiener Lageentwicklung GmbH, on behalf of the City of Vienna. When planning the educational facility by Kronaus Mitterer ZT GmbH, environmentally friendly construction was taken into account. In this project, in addition to a photovoltaic system, this also includes the use of geothermal energy and the release of heat/cold via component activation. This means that the rooms can be heated energy-efficiently in winter and kept cool in summer using so-called temperature control.
Green areas and open spaces are also central to ecological design. Facade greenery was installed on the wood-concrete hybrid building on the street sides. This architectural style harmonizes with the nature of Franklinstrasse, a quiet, green pedestrian zone, and thus rounds off the educational mile there.
The various green areas, such as the roof garden, offer sun-protected outdoor spaces in a quiet location, both during free time and during lessons. In the spacious inner courtyard you will also find benches and table tennis tables, as well as play equipment for the little ones.
As a connection to the large garden, there are open spaces on each floor on the courtyard side for children and young people to recreate. The open, spatial-pedagogical concept of the cluster was used. This allows for a lot of brightness in the rooms and collaboration between classes. The flexible area in the middle of a cluster can also be used for lessons or for the students’ leisure activities. The kindergarten also has such multi-purpose areas and multifunctional rooms that invite you to play and relax.
A bouldering wall in the school area, 2 standard gymnasiums and an exercise room for the kindergarten offer further exercise options.

This educational location is of great importance for the district, as there is a growing need for elementary education and care places in Floridsdorf.
Vice Mayor and City Councilor for Education Christoph Wiederkehr (NEOS) was impressed on site:
“I am very proud that we can open our largest new educational facility this year in Floridsdorf. I can still remember the former Floridsdorf hospital that was previously located here, and I am impressed by how quickly it was possible to create a state-of-the-art educational facility with a kindergarten, elementary and middle school as well as a music school and youth center for more than 1,600 on the same site implement children and young people. Congratulations and many thanks to everyone involved who helped with the implementation. I wish the children and parents lots of fun and success in this great educational building!”
Arno Langmeier, interim education director for Vienna, emphasizes:
“The educational institution is an innovative place where many children and young people from kindergarten to middle school learn, grow and develop. Here, the kindergarten, music school, elementary school, middle school and the youth center are closely linked and the transitions at the seams are designed to be as gentle as possible. I congratulate the committed management team on their successful start and wish them every success at this unique location.”
“Because Vienna is growing and responsibility towards future generations is the top priority, the city of Vienna is investing massively in new construction, expansion and expansion, but also in the renovation of educational institutions. Contemporary education, culture and sport form the basis of a successful educational path for young Viennese,” emphasizes Andrea Trattnig, Head of the City of Vienna Schools Department.

“Especially in a rapidly growing district like Floridsdorf, the expansion of educational facilities is extremely important, because education is the key to a self-determined life. All children must have access to a top education, regardless of their parents’ income. That’s why over 55 million euros from the Floridsdorf district budget have been invested in schools and kindergartens in the last five years alone. This new location is an important contribution to ensuring the quality of education in our district. The comprehensive offering here further enhances the Franklinstraße educational mile,” adds district leader Georg Papai
