New edition of the International African Film Festival of Argentina

The International African Film Festival of Argentina (FICAA) is celebrating a new edition this year, with the aim of bringing the public closer to African and African diaspora film productions. This event is dedicated to showcasing the richness and diversity of narratives, perspectives and themes from the African continent, covering both documentaries and fictions that deal with everything from the colonial past to contemporary cultural and social aspects.

In the competitive section of the festival, 10 feature films and 9 short films have been specially selected for their artistic quality. Among these productions, there are films that explore various issues and cultural aspects of Africa and its descendants around the world.

One of the outstanding productions is “Èṣù and the universe”a Brazilian documentary directed by Thiago Zanatowhich addresses the struggle of a community in Brazil to preserve and defend its religious beliefs, particularly the figure of the god YorubaÈṣù, faces the challenges of racism and cultural demonization. The film tells how, after centuries of slavery, this god remains a figure of worship and cultural resistance.

Another notable work is “African Disco”a fiction of Luck Razanajaona which premieres in Argentina. This production follows the life of Kwame, a young man who faces corruption in Madagascar after returning from illegal sapphire mines. The director details that Kwame will have to choose between easy money and loyalty; between individualism and political awakening.

The documentary “African Reasons”directed by Jefferson Melloexplores the journey and cultural legacy of the African diaspora, showcasing the influence of African music on diverse musical genres around the world.

In “Macongo, African Cordoba”the Argentinian Paul Cesar explores the African roots in the province of Córdoba, highlighting everything from the slave route to the legacy of African customs, words, traditions and art that still influences Cordoban society.

“The Oasis of Frozen Waters”a fiction directed by Mohammed Raouf Sebbahi From Morocco, it tells the story of Fadila, a doctor who must face a great dilemma when her husband, Kader, is diagnosed with cancer, highlighting the emotional conflict and difficult decisions they must make.

The festival also presents “The Spectre of Boko Haram” of Cyrielle Raingouwhich follows the daily lives of children in a context of armed conflict in Cameroon, and “Mambar Pierrette” of Rosine Mbakamwhich centers on Pierrette, a seamstress who faces various adversities while acting as a confidant for her community.

Finally, “Al Djanat” of Chloe Aïcha Boro from Burkina Faso, addresses the family dispute following the death of a Mandingo dignitary, highlighting the conflict between traditions and official law.

The projections of the STAY will take place in emblematic places in Buenos Aires such as the Kirchner Cultural Center (CCK), the National Library and the French Alliance of Buenos Aires. In addition, the festival extends to other provinces with the Federal FICAA, reaching Córdoba, Jesús María, Neuquén and Junín de los Andes. AGENCIES.
