Launch Business Insider, in 1974 Hawking introduced a theory known as ‘Hawking Radiation’. In the theory of Hawking Radiation, it is stated that particles that appear in the event horizon (the boundary of the black hole) will be separated due to the strong gravity of the black hole. Particles with positive energy will be thrown out of the black hole, aka leaks, in the form of heat energy. Only negatively charged particles remain so the black hole will slowly shrink.
Well, recently, research has shown that these events don’t just haunt blackhole, but other objects that have enough mass. If the theory were correct, then everything in the universe would eventually vanish as energy would slowly dissipate.
“That means that objects without an event horizon, such as the remains of dead stars and other massive objects in the universe, also have a type of radiation similar to black holes,” said lead author Heino Falcke, a professor of astrophysics at Radboud University, Netherlands.
“After a very long period of time, that radiation will cause everything in the universe to eventually evaporate, like a black hole. This will change not only our understanding of Hawking Radiation, but also our view of the universe and its future.” he added.
This research was published on June 2, 2023 in the journal Physical Review Letters.
